This song was written by Norodom Sihanouk and music arrangement by the legendary Mer Bun. Bopha Veangchan is very popular among Sihanouk's songs. Sihanouk wrote this song when he did a tour of Laos in the 1950s. According to a Khmer article written in 2003, Sihanouk had confirmed that he had written this song to reflect his love affair with a Laos student that resulted in a birth of their daughter Norodom Arun Reasmey.
As can be seen from the record label below, most of the information about the song was provided including the title in both Khmer and French. Unfortunately, the date of the record release was not provided. Therefore, exact time of the song's recording and release was unknown. We are left to approximate the date of its release from other sources.
Note that even though this song was originally released by Wat-Phnom label, other record labels also used this song to compile and sold under their own names. Here we have Independence record label using this song in their H-108 label compilation.
